â€‹GUARANTEED AUTO PROTECTION (GAP)
Our Guaranteed Auto Protection (GAP) program will help customers protect their vehicle investment, avoid a serious financial loss and help repay their auto loan in the event of a total loss. In the event a covered vehicle is totaled or stolen, GAP will pay the difference between the outstanding loan balance at the time of loss and the Actual Cash Value of the vehicle (certain deductions may apply). GAP may also cover up to $1,000 of the borrower's primary insurance deductible. GAP does not cover any refundable amounts from items such as service contracts, warranties, etc. that may be included in the original loan amount. GAP also does not cover late charges, fees assessed to the loan after inception, unearned interest, or any interest accrued after the date of loss.
Realizing the Importance of GAP
To understand and realize the importance of offering GAP, it's important to see how the absence of GAP coverage can cause a significant problem. Let’s assume that a vehicle is totaled one year after purchase. The borrower's primary insurance company pays the claim based on the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of the vehicle, not the outstanding loan balance. That be said, not having GAP, could leave you owing thousand of dollars to the bank and not having a vehicle to drive. With GAP coverage, the deficiency balance will be paid, leave you owing little or nothing. Without GAP, your customer remains liable to their lender for the full deficiency balance.
